Family Literacy

Since 1920, Volunteers of America, Dakotas has offered quality, affordable childcare for all income families. Through our caring staff and dedicated volunteers, we ensure the social, emotional and academic development of young children and empower older youth to be physically, emotionally and mentally healthy and ready to enter adulthood. Volunteers of America, Dakotas has six licensed childcare services within the Sioux Falls area. Volunteers of America, Dakotas offers quality, affordable childcare for ages 4 weeks to 10 years at the Childcare and Family Literacy Center. This program promotes the healthy development of children and their families and offers a curriculum that fosters self-confidence, discovery, academic readiness, social and emotional development, and cultural awareness. United Way provides limited funds for respite and crisis childcare for eligible participants at the Childcare and Family Literacy Center. Basic fees apply. Scholarships are available to qualifying families. Our community-based Head Start and PreK Pilot programs offer additional services to qualifying families with children 3-5 years old. Head Start and PreK Pilot Volunteers of America, Dakotas' Head Start and PreK Pilot programs are comprehensive developmental programs for children and their families. They provide educational, nutritional, health and social services to preschool age children from limited income families. The Head Start and PreK Pilot programs provide children with a learning environment and varied experience to help them develop socially, emotionally, intellectually and physically in a manner appropriate for their age and stage of development. Children must be at least three years old to be eligible for the Head Start and PreK Pilot programs. PreK Pilot program is a new program supported by state and local funds along with United Way. It offers children starting at the age of three 1440 hours of preschool services to provide for their social, emotional, intellectual and nutritional needs. Call us today to register your child.
