LIFE & DEMOGRAPHICS
Benjamin Franklin was born in Boston on January 17, 1706 Josiah Franklin and Abiah Folger.
Franklin was raised in Boston. He loved to read and was an apprentice for his brother James.
As an apprentice, Benjamin never thought James would let him write for his newspaper, The New England Courant. So Ben would write letters under the made-up name, Silence Dogood. The letters were a hit and eventually he revealed to his brother he had been writing the letters all along.
Franklin died on April 17, 1790 at the age of 84.
