On the first day of Intuitive Living, I spoke with a client who was looking to improve her listening skills on a deep level. She had just finished a program on trust and found that she was starting to relate to others better. However, she didn't know where to find the information that would help her build this skill.
I explained to her that learning to read people's body language had nothing to do with reading minds. You see, some people's eyes are more expressive than others. If someone's eyes are locked on their smartphone, then you will tend to be turned off. If someone is texting, then you may be distracted.
But it doesn't matter what the situation is, as long as you are watching for the same behavior in different circumstances. So, what is the best way to figure out if someone is trying to give you a sign or not? To use the tools of observation and empathy to guide your interactions.
To put it simply, someone using body language to communicate with you is just showing you that they are trying to connect with you. If someone is uncomfortable, then their body language will change, but you don't have to respond to it. Try it for yourself: become aware of the person's discomfort, but continue communicating without engaging them.
To better understand what I mean by observing people's body language, imagine yourself walking down the street and seeing a stranger holding a cell phone in their hand, waiting for you to meet them. You would probably not enter into a conversation. However, that same stranger would be willing to speak to you if you did something about it.
That is a good example of being empathetic. Because you are observing their posture and movements, you can see that they are trying to communicate with you.
By being able to observe others using body language, you can determine the type of communication they are attempting to share with you. This is extremely important in creating your own intuition about another person.
Learn to watch for the signs. Notice when someone is communicating to you, even if it is from another state of mind. Being able to pick up on these types of things is the most important skill to master.
Because body language communicates so much about the other person, when you get into the habit of observing it, you can pick up on a lot of clues about how they think, what they want and how they are feeling. I have learned to create my own intuition about a person based on observing them for days on end.
To learn more about this, please visit my website at the top of the page. You will also be able to gain some of the skills that I am teaching through downloadable ebooks. It takes commitment and practice to learn this, so if you don't believe me, try it for yourself and see what happens.
One of the reasons why we learn best when we are children is because we already understand what our bodies are telling us. By observing the people around us, we are allowing our minds to quickly piece together our intuitive answers.
You will discover that with practice, you will be able to easily read other people's body language and determine what they are trying to communicate. Being able to connect with people and follow their actions is one of the most powerful ways to change your life for the better.
