About Me

Dear students and parents:

My name is Karina Vailes and I am looking forward to meeting you and working with you to help you reach your academic goals.

I am a Spanish-native speaker from the country of Guatemala, but I am a Louisianan by heart as this has been home for the past 2e years. My husband, a Louisiana native, and I have two boys who are growing up bilingual.

I graduated from LSU in 2005, earned a master’s degree from NSU in 2012 and I also earned a teaching certification from Louisiana College in 2013.

This will be my sixth year teaching Spanish at ASH.

I have high academic expectations of my students because I believe in their potential, which sometimes they do not recognize.

I have had the honor to see many of my students place in the Annual Northwest District Literary Rally, one of the largest competitions for academically talented students. One of my students passed the CLEP exam, a high-level test that allows students to earn college credit. Most recently in 2017-18 three of my students scored in the 25 percentile of the National Spanish Examinations competition, with one of the earning a gold medal.

Please visit my Web site regularly to learn about homework assignments, project, lessons, etc. My Website is the best way to keep up with my class, when you are absent, but also just to review and practice using the links provided in the links tab.

I hope you are as ready as I am to do what it takes to make this academic year a success.

Good luck!

Karina Vailes
