Autism Events in April 2012

We will have several events in Orange County Schools this April in coordination with Autism Awareness Month.  Here is a look at our calendar:

- Tuesday, April 10, from 4:00 pm until 5:30 pm - Finding a Voice: Using Augmentative and Alternative Communication
Location: A.L. Stanback Middle School, Media Center

This is the second session of the Autism Connections series for both families and staff, and includes guest presenter Lynne Deese from the North Carolina Assistive Technology Project as well as members of the Assistive Technology Team in our school district.

- Thursday, April 12, from 3:00 - 3:45 and 4:00 - 4:45 (2 sessions) - Executive Functioning and Problem Solving and the Common Core
Location: A.L. Stanback Middle School, Media Center

This is the third session of the Autism 101 Part 2 series, which was specifically designed for teachers of students with high functioning autism in inclusive settings.

- Wednesday, April 18, from 4:00 pm - 5:30 pm - Basics in Behavioral Strategies
Location: A.L. Stanback Middle School, Media Center

This is the third session of the Autism Connections Series for families and staff - this session features guest presenter Leica Anzaldo, Training Manager for the Autism Society of North Carolina

- Thursday, April 26, from 3:00 - 3:45 (*1 session only) - Language and Reading Comprehension and the Common Core                       Location: A.L. Stanback Middle School, Media Center
This is the final session of the Autism 101 Part 2 series

- Saturday, April 28, from 10:00 am - 12:30 pm - Community Partnership Fair
Location: A.L. Stanback Middle School
The Community Partnership Fair will be an event in which parents and staff can connect with service providers and other community-based professionalsto find out about opportunities for students with special needs.  This fair will include a special screening of the documentary film
A Certain Proof, which chronicles the lives of three children with special needs, their families, and the individual challenges they face.
